Contrary to the traditional painting scheme of adding to create a form, Lancelot Blondeel constructs relief by consolidating the material at certain points on the canvas. This particular technique allows the artist to emphasize the gestural element of his practice. In contrast to a nearly instantaneous movement, the practice of wash in the background softens the outcome and provides an opportunity to refine the texture work.
